Almost all monasteries in china’s tang dynasty had a least one hall for worshiping Buddha, where they would have offering prayers, burning incest and chanting scriptures. All of these halls had a statue of Buddha, usually around 30 feet tall. they were usually made of bronze and precious metals and stones. Monasteries had meditation halls where monks practiced their devotions, baths where they bathed, cells where they sleep, and kitchens and dining halls. Also they had libraries where they put their sutras (scriptures).
Buddhism has generated a wide range of popular practices. Among these, two simple practices are deeply rooted in the experience of the earliest Buddhist community and have remained basic to all Buddhist traditions. The first is the veneration of the Buddha or other Buddhas involves showing respect, giving gifts or meditating on the qualities of Buddha. the relics of Buddha often receive the gifts that are given. The second basic practice is the change from monks to layperson. The monks represent higher level of spiritual achievement, like the Buddha himself. The three major events of the Buddha’s life, his birth, enlightenment, and entrance into final nirvana, these are commemorated in all Buddhist countries.
